Learner licence mock test
Use this LL mock test to practise learner licence test questions before you sit the real online test. Each round picks a fresh, random set of questions on road signs and road rules. After you answer, the correct option and a short reason appear, and at the end you see your score and a review of every answer.
The questions are written by this independent guide from the official rules, mainly the Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017 and the road sign lists published by traffic police. They are practice questions, not the official question bank, so treat a good score here as a sign that you are ready to revise, not a guarantee that you will pass.
How the real learner licence test works
Since 1 April 2021 the learner licence (LL) process runs online under Rule 11 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR). After you apply and pay on the Sarathi portal, you must:
- Watch the safe driving tutorial. An online road safety tutorial has to be completed within seven days of applying. In the Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra flows the video must be watched in full, without skipping.
- Take the online objective test. It is a multiple choice test, taken within seven days of applying, subject to availability.
- Score at least 60 per cent. The pass standard is answering at least 60 per cent of the questions correctly.
- Download the LL. On passing, the learner licence is issued electronically in Form 3 and can be printed.
The number of questions, the time limit and the language choices can differ by state, and are shown on screen before you begin. Some states run the test from home with Aadhaar authentication and face recognition; others still hold it at the RTO. See the learning licence test guide for the full process.
What the LL test questions cover
Rule 11(2) lists the subjects of the online test. Our mock test follows the same list:
| Topic in the rules | What to revise |
|---|---|
| Traffic signs and signals | Mandatory, cautionary and informatory signs, traffic lights and hand signals |
| Road rules | Keep left, lanes, overtaking, right of way, parking, horn, phone use |
| Duties after an accident | Helping victims, Good Samaritan protection |
| Unmanned railway crossings | Rail traffic has priority; never enter when gates close or the signal is red |
| Documents to carry | DL, RC, insurance, fitness, tax and PUC certificates, in physical or electronic form |
Revise the signs with our road signs chart and the rules with the traffic rules and traffic light rules guides.
How to use this mock test well
- Take several rounds. Questions are shuffled, so each attempt is a new mix.
- Read the reason after every answer. The short explanation tells you which rule the answer comes from, which helps more than memorising the option.
- Use the review list. The result screen lists the questions you got wrong. Go back to the matching section of the road signs or traffic rules page.
- Aim well above 60%. The real test has its own questions. If you are scoring comfortably above the pass mark here, you are in a better position.
Sign questions are where most people lose marks. Learn the three shapes first: circle for orders, triangle for warnings, rectangle for information.
Official practice tests and question banks
Some transport departments publish their own practice material. These come from official sites:
- The Sarathi portal lists a mock test and an LL test tutorial among its services once you choose your state.
- Delhi Transport Department hosts a question bank for the computer LL test.
- Odisha Transport provides an online LL mock test page.
- Telangana Transport links a demo test from its learner licence page.
If your state has its own question bank, practise with it too, because it is closest to the real test.
Learner licence test in Hindi and other languages
Many people search for an LL mock test in Hindi. The language options of the real test are set on the portal and can vary by state, so check the choices shown when you start. Our mock test is in English, but the rules are the same in every language: keep left, give way at STOP and GIVE WAY signs, wear a helmet and seat belt, and never use a handheld phone while driving.
If you fail the real LL test
The Sarathi help document says that if you fail the LL test, you pay the retest fee on the portal and book a fresh attempt. A missed test can be rebooked through slot booking, subject to available slots.
| Item (Rule 32 CMVR) | Central fee |
|---|---|
| Learner licence, per class of vehicle | ₹150 |
| LL test or repeat test | ₹50 |
States can add service charges, so the total on the payment page may be higher. See driving licence fees for the full table.
