Most people who search for MP parivahan want a learner licence (LL) or driving licence (DL) from the Madhya Pradesh Transport Department. In Madhya Pradesh, licence applications are made on Sarathi, the national licence system built by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and reached through parivahan.gov.in. This page explains how that works for MP residents and points you to our detailed guides for each service.
Sarathi Portal Guide is an independent website, not the Transport Department and not a government site. We do not take applications or fees. Every application, payment and test booking happens on the official portal.
Is MP on Sarathi? How the MP parivahan licence system works
Yes. As of 16 October 2026, the Sarathi state selection page lists Madhya Pradesh among the states whose licence services are available online on the portal. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) also said in its Year End Review 2023 that Vahan and Sarathi had been implemented in all RTOs of 35 States and UTs, with Telangana the only exception at that time.
So when people say "MP parivahan sewa" or "sarathi parivahan MP", the licence part of it means: open Sarathi, select Madhya Pradesh, then pick the service. The Sarathi menu includes a new LL, the LL test tutorial and mock test, the online LL test, a new DL, renewal, duplicate DL, change of address, International Driving Permit (IDP), DL extract, slot booking, fee payment, application status and grievance.
The Sarathi state page itself warns that DL services should be used only through parivahan.gov.in or the NextGen mParivahan app. It also asks applicants to keep their mobile number updated in Sarathi, because OTPs and the application number come by SMS.
Learning licence MP: apply online, take the test, download
The learning licence process is set by central rules that apply in every state, including MP:
- Apply on Sarathi. Fill Form 2 (the LL application) and pay the fee online. Form 2 now includes a self-declaration of physical fitness. Transport vehicle applicants also need a Form 1A medical certificate.
- Finish the tutorial. Complete the online safe-driving tutorial within seven days of applying.
- Take the online test. It is an objective test on traffic signs and signals, road rules, duties after an accident, unmanned railway crossings and documents to carry. You pass with at least 60 per cent correct.
- Download the LL. The LL is issued electronically in Form 3 once the conditions are met.
What is specific to MP. The MP Transport Department website has a page titled "Click here to get Online Learner License from Satna and Khargone RTO, Faceless Service". Earlier, the Free Press Journal (2 August 2021, Indore) reported an Aadhaar-based LL from home in which the test had 10 questions and 6 correct answers were needed to pass. We could not confirm how widely the faceless route is available across MP today, so treat the options Sarathi shows for your address as the final word.
Read the full process in our learning licence guide and practise with the LL mock test.
MP DL apply online after the learning licence
A learning licence is valid across India for 6 months, and you cannot apply for a DL on an expired LL. State transport departments such as Odisha state that a DL can be applied for 30 days after getting the LL, so plan your driving practice inside that window.
- Apply for the DL on Sarathi, upload documents and pay the fee.
- Book a driving test slot. Online slot booking is not available at every RTO, so you may need to check with your RTO.
- Take the test of competence to drive for each class of vehicle you want.
- If your status says "Application is under scrutiny and processing at RTO Level", you need to visit the RTO for document checks and biometrics.
If you passed the test at an Accredited Driver Training Centre (ADTC), central rules exempt you from the driving test at the RTO. Our driving licence online apply guide covers each step in detail.
MP driving licence download and DL status
To check an application, open Sarathi, select Madhya Pradesh, click Apply Online, then Application Status, and enter your application number. The same route is used to upload a photo and signature after applying. See our DL status guide for what to do if it seems stuck.
For a digital copy of your DL, use DigiLocker or the mParivahan app. A MoRTH advisory of 9 August 2018 asked states to accept a DL shown through DigiLocker or mParivahan as valid, and Rule 139 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules was amended in 2018 so a licence can be produced in physical or electronic form. Step-by-step help is in our driving licence download guide.
MP driving licence search: by DL number, not by name
Searches such as "driving licence search by name in MP" are common, but the official flows we found work with your DL number and date of birth. For services on an existing DL, Sarathi asks for the DL number, date of birth and a captcha, then confirms details by OTP. We found no official name-only search for licences. Be careful with unofficial sites that offer one and ask for personal details.
Our online DL check guide explains the official ways to see your licence details.
Driving licence renewal MP and duplicate DL
Since 2019 you can apply for renewal up to one year before your DL expires or within one year after it expires. From 1 April 2021, renewal can be filed with any licensing authority in the state, so you are not tied to the RTO that first issued your licence. If you apply more than one year after expiry, mParivahan says you must retake the driving test.
Renewal needs your existing DL, the application, Form 1 (self-declaration for non-transport licences) and Form 1A medical certificate if you are 40 or older or hold a transport licence. For a lost or damaged card, a duplicate DL is issued if your licence details are on the portal; otherwise the authority first confirms them electronically with the original licensing authority. Details: driving licence renewal and duplicate driving licence.
Driving licence MP online apply fees
The base fees come from Rule 32 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (G.S.R. 1183(E) of 29 December 2016, amended in 2021). States can add service or user charges, and we could not verify MP's own charges, so the final amount is the one shown on the Sarathi payment page.
| Service | Central fee |
|---|---|
| Learning licence, each class | ₹150 |
| LL test or retest | ₹50 |
| Driving test or retest, each class | ₹300 |
| Issue of DL | ₹200 |
| Renewal of DL | ₹200 |
| Duplicate DL | ₹400 |
A heavy licence is a transport vehicle class: the same per-class test fee applies, the minimum age is 20, and a Form 1A medical certificate is needed. Full list on our driving licence fees page.
MP Transport Department and where to get help
The Transport Department, Madhya Pradesh, has its website at transport.mp.gov.in. For problems with an online application, the Sarathi menu has a grievance option. Sarathi cannot refund a double payment, so in that case contact your RTO or the department directly. Cancelling an application on Sarathi is permanent and fees are not refunded, so think before you cancel.

Can I take the learning licence test from home in MP?
