Parivahan Gujarat is how most people describe the online route to a driving licence in Gujarat: you go to parivahan.gov.in, open Sarathi and select Gujarat. Licensing in the state is under the Commissionerate of Transport, Government of Gujarat, which works through RTO and ARTO offices.
This is an independent guide, not the Commissionerate or any government body. Applications, fees and tests happen only on the official portal and at official centres. Below we cover what is particular to Gujarat, then summarise the national rules with links to our detailed guides.
Faceless learning licence in Gujarat (reported from 7 July 2025)
According to a Bombay Samachar report of 6 July 2025, Gujarat began a faceless (contactless) learning licence system from 7 July 2025. As reported:
- Identity is checked by Aadhaar e-KYC with an OTP.
- The LL test can be taken from anywhere on a computer with a webcam.
- There is no extra fee for the faceless route.
- Applicants over 40 and those applying for heavy vehicles must provide a Form 1A medical certificate.
- The option appears on parivahan.gov.in as "Contactless (Faceless) Learning License".
We have not read the official order, so details may differ from the report. Practise first with our LL mock test, and read the learning licence test guide.
Two routes to a learning licence in Gujarat
| Faceless (online) | Offline | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Anywhere, webcam computer | RTO, ARTO, ITI or Polytechnic centres (as reported) |
| Identity | Aadhaar e-KYC with OTP | Documents checked at the centre |
| Pass mark | At least 60 per cent correct (central rule) | |
| Result | LL issued electronically in Form 3, valid 6 months across India | |
Under central rules, the online safe-driving tutorial and the LL test are taken within seven days of applying, subject to availability. The test covers traffic signs and signals, road rules, duties after an accident, unmanned railway crossings and documents to carry. Full details: learning licence.
Sarathi parivahan Gujarat: applying for the permanent DL
Once you hold the LL, apply for the DL on Sarathi before the LL expires. State transport pages such as Odisha say a DL can be applied for 30 days after the LL. Upload documents, pay, and book a driving test slot. Online slot booking is not available at every RTO.
The Commissionerate's website has a video album titled "Automated Driving Test Track". We could not read its contents, so we cannot say which RTOs use automated tracks. If you have passed the course test at an Accredited Driver Training Centre (ADTC), central rules exempt you from the RTO driving test.

Driving licence renewal online Gujarat
Whether your licence was issued in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara or elsewhere in Gujarat, renewal follows national rules:
- Check your window. Apply from one year before expiry up to one year after expiry.
- Open services on DL. On Sarathi, choose Gujarat, enter your DL number, date of birth and captcha, then confirm details with OTP.
- Attach forms. Form 1 self-declaration for non-transport licences; Form 1A medical certificate if you are 40 or older or hold a transport licence.
- Pay and track. Pay online and follow the application with the status option.
From 1 April 2021 renewal can be filed with any licensing authority in the state. If you apply more than a year after expiry, you must take the driving test again and pay a late fee. More in driving licence renewal.

| Learning licence, per class (two wheeler, four wheeler etc.) | ₹150 |

Older searches for "fees in Gujarat 2020" or "2021" point to the same schedule, which dates from December 2016 with 2021 changes. See driving licence fees.
Duplicate DL, name change, DL extract and download
Since the 2022 expansion of Aadhaar-based services, duplicate DL, change of name, change of address and photo or signature changes can be done online on a voluntary basis. The Sarathi menu also has a DL extract option. A duplicate DL costs ₹400 under the central schedule.
To carry your licence on your phone, use DigiLocker or mParivahan; a MoRTH advisory asks states to accept these electronic copies. See duplicate driving licence and driving licence download.
