To change address on driving licence records, you no longer have to queue at the RTO (Regional Transport Office) in most cases. Change of address in a DL is available online with Aadhaar authentication on the Sarathi portal, and the same goes for several other corrections: name, photo and signature, date of birth and biometrics.

What you can update on a driving licence online
When MoRTH expanded its Aadhaar-based online services from 18 to 58 in September 2022 (S.O. 4353(E) of 16 September 2022), the driving licence services included:

These services are voluntary: you can use the Aadhaar route or the regular route. MoRTH describes them as provided "in a contactless and faceless manner". Learner licence holders can also change address, name and photo or signature on the LL online.
How to change address on driving licence online
- Open Sarathi and select your state. Use the official button on this page. Pick the state where you are applying.
- Fetch your DL. Enter your DL number, date of birth and the captcha.
- Confirm details and verify OTP. Check the details shown and verify with the OTP sent to your mobile.
- Select change of address. Choose it from the services listed for your licence.
- Enter the new address and upload proof. Upload an address proof that matches the new address.
- Pay online. Pay the fee shown and save the receipt and application number.
- Track the application. Use Application Status until the change is approved.
This is the services on DL flow described by the Uttarakhand Transport Department for Sarathi. In Maharashtra, faceless change of address started on 2 June 2022 with no additional fees, and the updated card is sent by speed post. Haryana's faceless services, as reported in 2023, need your Aadhaar details to match your DL record.

Documents for address change and other corrections
The central rules ask for proof of age and proof of residence with licence applications. Chhattisgarh Transport lists the documents it accepts (its page may be dated, and your state's list can differ):

Driving licence address change fees
Under Rule 32 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, a change in address or other particulars recorded in the driving licence costs ₹200. States add service or user charges, so the total on the payment page is higher. Puducherry, for example, lists ₹550 in total for a change of address. If your state still issues smart cards, a smart card type DL in Form 7 carries an additional ₹200.

Name correction and date of birth change in driving licence
Change of name and change of date of birth are both on the list of DL services notified for online use with Aadhaar authentication. For the faceless route, your Aadhaar details are used to authenticate you, so a name or date of birth that differs between Aadhaar and your licence is exactly the kind of mismatch that can stop contactless processing. If that happens, check with your RTO.
Upload a clear proof for the corrected detail. For date of birth, the documents in the table above are the kind of proof transport departments accept.
Change photo on driving licence
Change of photo and signature is another online DL service. If the status of an application asks you to upload a photo and signature, Sarathi's help material says this is done through Apply Online, then Application Status, by entering the application number. Rajasthan's published guidance for LL applications gives a size of about 10 to 20 KB each for photo and signature uploads, which shows the kind of small file the portal expects; follow the limit your state's form shows.
A change of biometrics is listed separately. If the status message says the application is under scrutiny and processing at RTO level, you must visit the RTO for physical document verification and biometrics.
Parivahan mobile number update for your DL
The Sarathi state selection page asks applicants to keep their mobile number updated in Vahan and Sarathi, and OTPs for DL services go to that number. The Uttarakhand Transport Department lists mobile number change among the licence services available on Sarathi, alongside renewal, address change and IDP.
Open Sarathi, select your state and look for the mobile number update option among the services on your DL. If your old number is no longer working and the portal cannot verify you, contact your RTO. Keep the number current before you start any other change, because every step after this relies on it.
Remove a vehicle class, and checking your update
To permanently surrender one or more vehicle classes from your licence, you apply in Form 8 under Rule 17A, and the authority deletes the class within seven days. Since 2021 this sits under the same ₹200 Rule 32 item as a change of address or other particulars. Adding a class is different and needs a test; see LMV driving licence classes.
